The skills required to bring the vibrant, steampunk world of Willy Wonka to life pushed me to level up my design process. I learned to create a light plot and instrument schedule to keep myself organized, how to wire DMX decoders to highlight the proscenium with LED tape, and how to program and incorporate moving lights to immerse the audience in the illusion of the factory during the overture and entr'act. I also explored laser cutting my own custom gobos out of brass since the designs I envisioned didn't exist yet; these were featured as a series of gears focused on the proscenium, and a large spiral focused center-stage.
