Sarah Marie Tendler
About The Artist
Sarah is a Colorado based theatrical lighting designer and technician. She specializes in new works with innovative stories and unconventional technology, and believes theatre can spark change in how audiences move through their lives.
Sarah found her home and her community in the theatre when she stepped backstage for the first time in October of 2024. She found magic in being surrounded and inspired by incredible artists every day; in every beam of light, every coiled cable, every 13-hour day, and every piece of gaffer tape she finds in her room. Theatre gave her a space to fall in love with being alive and now she hopes to create these spaces for her audiences.
She loves to incorporate non-traditional fixtures into her designs: painted lanterns, antique chandeliers, or neon signs. She views lighting as more than just a way to see actors: it’s a feeling that can change the whole space and has the potential to blur the line of reality. In order to achieve this effect, she seeks to understand her technology inside and out and to know exactly what the breaking point is so she knows exactly how far she can push her art.
She knows this industry is evolving daily and works to not only learn and refine each new skill she finds, but to be the one pushing the craft forward.
She intends to design the future of theatre.
